IT may seem like an unfair part of life for some, but looks matter. Most people will base their entire perception of you at first glance of your appearance, and judgements are made. However important looks are to you, perfection is far from required. Keeping up appearances, though, can make or break how you are viewed by the world, and also how you view yourself. So if you need some motivation or justification into the importance of investing in your appearance, keep reading.

The First Impression

When you are in a social situation, your senses are being bombarded with information. To try to make sense of it all, your brain uses many shortcuts to assess your surroundings. One of these little shortcuts involves making a snap decision about a person based on their appearance to them.

If you are greeted by a man wearing a suit, tie and perfect smile, you will be inclined to listen to what they have to say. Especially when compared to the man in ragged clothes and rotted yellow teeth. It says a lot without saying anything, and that is why it is important to convey the image that you want for yourself.

A man’s physical appearance is one of his greatest assets, even if it isn’t his strongest card. Looks make the man, but personality will make them like you. However, you cannot put the horse before the cart in these instances, due to the snap decisions that your brain will make. So in order to be the man you want to be, you have to look the part.

To appeal to others in relationships, you need to look good. Perfection is not the end goal, but looking physically appealing is important. Try to remember that, thanks to our very nature as humans, the average woman will find the average man perfectly attractive.

For Your Self-Esteem

It’s all well and good to strive to look good for others, but the key to finding happiness in yourself is to think that you look good. The easiest way to do this is to put a little bit of effort into your looks.

Buy a nice outfit, treat yourself to those classy loafers or improve your looks. Ultimately, it is all about boosting your self-confidence and improving your image. When you feel good about your looks, you outwardly look better than if you were overly self-conscious. If all else fails, fake it ‘til you make it.
